Carrots bad for rabbits?! 'Bugs Bunny was wrong'
Over the years, the sadistic little animators at Looney Tunes bludgeoned Bugs Bunny with an untold number of objects, had Elmer Fudd repeatedly poke him in the chest with a shotgun and on one occasion, had him strangled by a big, hairy monster.

But who would have guessed that the most dangerous thing they ever subjected brave ol' Bugs to, might just have been all those carrots he kept crunching?

The ingrained idea that rabbits love carrots is not only wrong, but is also placing the health of many pet rabbits at risk, according to the the United Kingdom's version of the ASPCA -- the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSCPA).

The group is rolling out an awareness campaign for rabbit owners to feed their pets hay -- not carrots. Root vegetables are not a part of the animal's natural diet and research carried out for the charity found too many carrots can lead to digestive problems or teeth decay, no matter what cartoons taught us.

RSPCA animal scientist Rachel Roxburgh helpfully points out that "real rabbits don't talk, and they shouldn't be eating carrots too often either." Instead, they should be fed around a handful of hay a day, or as much as the size of their body.

So the main lesson here? Other than taking cues from children's cartoons is no way to go through life? That would be that "Bugs Bunny was wrong," in the words of Roxburgh.

Yes, but it's still perfectly okay to give your cat lasagna, right?
